Singapore

The first part of the journey is done and we just landed at Changi Airport in Singapore. I must say I felt mixed emotions walking away from my family (pap, mam, jola, wilco, matthijs and wim) and friends (Colin, Marten & Wouter) at Shiphol today and flying off on my own. I felt adventurous with a knot in my stomach at the same time. I may not be closeby anymore, but Internet helps and I am always 24 hours away (and that is not that long!) ;)

Arriving at my seat it appeared to be a windowless seat. Stupid enough I even checked a site with seat information for the Boeing 777-200 which said this was a good seat ;) Good thing though was it was cloudy all the way and half of it in the dark so who needs windows anyways :P The good thing for a windowless row was that the other two seats next to me were not occupied so that gave me quite some space for me myself and I ;)

Excellent entertainment system by the way; dozens of films, documetaries, tv shows on demand on your own in flight entertainment system. Perfect :) I watched National Treasure 2, Bee Movie and 5 knights. All pretty amusing but not terrific ;)

The time here is 6:40 AM and Singapore is in the same timezone as Perth. It feels pretty humid and according to the airplane’s thermometer it’s 26 degrees outside (at night!). As I have 3 hours to kill before daparture to Perth (09:35) I think I’ll have a look at the transfer hotel as there is a sign (as Marten told me) that you can have a shower over there. Might be a good idea ;)

Next post will be from Perth! :P

YHA Perth

To accomodate for my first five nights in Australia I have just booked a bed in a 4 share (male) room at the Perth City YHA for $ 140,- (á € 81,-). Because -at the time of arrival- I will be a YHA member, I saved $ 17.50. That may not seem much, but as I intend to travel for about three months this may prove to sum up to a nice total ;)

According to the YHA site this is Western Australia’s only 4.5 star backpacker hostel. The hostel is set inside a renovated 1940s art deco building in the heart of the city, and has everything a traveller could want. Facilities include air conditioning, wifi, internet, parking, games room, pool, kitchen, library, TV room, laundry, secure lockers, luggage storage, 24 hour reception, café. It is affordable but superior backpacker accommodation – winner of Western Australia Tourism award for Best Backpacker Accommodation 2007.

Perth City YHA

A good thing the hostel fascilitates WiFi as well. As I plan on buying a car in the first few days it is very helpfull there is WiFi access available within the hostel.
