As adviced by the fiddler two days ago, this morning I headed for Plymouth Notch. The birthplace of John Calvin Coolidge Jr. (July 4, 1872 – January 5, 1933), the thirtieth President of the United States (1923-1929). The small town still looks like it was in the twenties and today there was even a festival going on.

The first thing I noticed was this hissing car, which is actually a steam powered car. I can’t recall having ever seen one of these

The town consisted of a couple of farms, a post office, a one-roomed school, a church and -of course- the Coolidge homestead. Of which this is the front porch:

And suddenly the steam powered car was whisteling like a steam train and came rolling by, notice the steamy trail:

After a sudden heart attack at his home in Northampton he was burried here in the Plymouth graveyard:

The hills surrounding the little town are covered in hay rolls.

The last stop for today would be Jenne Farm, probably the one of the most photographed farms in the USA. The farm has appeared in magazine covers, photography books, and a Budweiser television advertisement; it has also served as a setting in the films Forrest Gump and Funny Farm. Photographs of the farm have appeared on posters, postcards and wall calendars.

Along the way I came past another very nice barn:

I’m now staying for the night in a Super 8 motel in White River Junction.
